How do I establish my child’s care at Pediatric Care Specialists?

Simply call our office at (814) 266-8840 and tell us you would like to transfer your child’s care to Pediatric Care Specialists.  We will get the needed information from you and set up your child’s first appointment. To save time, fill out a medical records request form and drop it off at our office or fax it to us at (814) 266-8863 so that we can request prior medical records for you.  If you are about to have a baby, all you will need to do is notify the hospital of which pediatrician you’ve chosen. If your baby is born at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center we will see your newborn in the hospital. If you are delivering your baby at another facility, you can call us before you are discharged and set up your first follow up appointment.

What insurances do you accept?

We accept payment from most insurance companies including Highmark, Health America/Health Assurance, Access Plus, United Healthcare, United Healthcare Community, Gateway, UPMC and Aetna. If your insurance plan is not listed above, please call us to discuss it. Please be sure PCS is covered by your plan prior to the office visit. For services not covered by insurance we ask that you pay at the time of service. We discount our fee to those who pay when service is rendered.

We reserve numerous same day appointments for sick patients every day. We also offer walk-in hours and virtual visits.

Can I talk to a doctor after the office is closed?

Yes. You speak directly with the doctor on call when you call us after hours.

Do you have weekend hours?

We understand that illness doesn’t happen from 9-5. Therefore, we offer late-evening hours, weekend hours and holiday hours to better serve our patients and families.

Can I request which provider I want my child to see?

Yes! If you have a provider that you prefer to see please let our receptionist know when scheduling your appointment. Please note that while we do offer same-day appointments for sick children, not every provider sees patients every day in every office. Therefore, if you do make a request for a provider who can’t see your child that day for any reason, we will be sure to notify you at the time that you schedule.

Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?

Immunizations are a series of shots given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. Making sure your child receives immunizations when scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from potentially fatal diseases. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%. If you have questions about vaccinations, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
